PokerStars has from 2009 a country manager in Bucharest.

You say that PokerStars isn’t in Romania at all? And what connection has Daniel Negreanu with your country, he’s a Canadian. Or is he popular in Romania also?

Daniel Negreanu feels he’s part Romanian and he also treasures the heritage from his parents, originally from Sibiu area (I think, not sure). And, compared with most of the people here, he’s proud of his Romanian links.

As for PokerStars, they have a HQ for the Eastern Europe in Budapest – Hungary (runned by Gabor Vida and later on by Ivan Nemeth – http://hu.linkedin.com/in/nemethivan )and one-man offices in the rest of the EE countries, so for Romania they have Cristina Calinoiu as country manager ( http://ro.linkedin.com/in/cristinacalinoiu ), and from my knowledge they have somewhere between 3-5.000 Romanians subscribed to their poker room.

Daniel Negreanu is Romanian, his parents came from Romania and they run away from our country because of the soviet / communist dictatorship. Negreanu is a 100% Romanian name, and even if he is currently representing Canada on international contest, he speaks and I think he also feels a little bit Romanian inside. Same as other Romanians who made a name in the world: C. Brancusi, M. Eliade, E. Cioran, N. Comaneci or I. Nastase

PokerStars doesn’t currently have an office in Romania, and from my knowledge, they are losing a big part of the profits made by rival and less competitive brands on the market. What I’ve said is that because of Daniel, they could lead the market – the software has a friendly and easy to use interface, they accept most of the payment options, and have 100.000+ players worldwide.

currently, romania doesn’t have it’s own poker inside news or magazine to stay informed about the domain.
